Home Hotel Katajanokka is located about 10 minutes’ drive from Helsinki city centre, with great architecture, excellent shopping and a vibrant sauna culture. This charming and stylish hotel itself is a real attraction, housed within thick red brick walls, once home to the Helsinki County Prison. When the building was transformed into a hotel, the building’s rich history was transported into the modern era, offering a magical world of contrasts. Prepare for surroundings that ooze comfort and elegance with a touch of Nordic luxury.

The oldest part of the hotel dates back to 1837, while the main building was constructed in 1888. Following extensive restoration, the building opened its doors as a hotel in 2007, with several parts of the hotel being protected by the Finnish National Heritage Board. In 2017, the hotel was once again renovated, with brand new interior design, resulting in a stylish lifestyle hotel in this unique historical setting. The hotel’s wonderful Restaurant Linnankellari serves breakfast, afternoon fika and dinner every day as part of an overnight stay.

We have five red-brick meeting rooms here at the hotel that are ideal for meetings, negotiations, interviews and more. For larger events, such as conferences and celebrations for up to 130 people, the former prison chapel provides an impressive venue. With its six-meter-high ceilings and original church altar, the chapel offers a versatile and experiential space for various events. If needed, the entire hotel can be reserved, allowing you to be the king of the castle for one day.

Arriving to the hotel

The hotel is at Katajanokka, an island 10 minutes drive from city centre and a 7 minutes tram ride away from Aleksanterinkatu (tram 4). Central railway station is 25 minutes walk away or 15 minutes by walk and tram. Viking Line ferry terminal is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Arriving with car: The hotel offers 25 paid parking spaces behind the building, within the brick walls and these spaces can be pre-booked. Paid public parking is also available on the street near the hotel, where payment can be registered via the nearby machines.
